Aanraku Class Schedule, Fees,
and Information
  • Classes are given on an individual basis.

  • Students supply their own tools and consumables.

  • You may begin anytime.

THERE IS CURRENTLY NO WAITING LIST FOR CLASSES

If you wish to join our studio, the sooner you make your request, the better.

You must pay in advance a $700 class fee which covers the ESTIMATED total cost of your course including materials. Once you pay your deposit, we begin to work with you to develop your pattern so there is no delay when your work space becomes available.

  • The first class is three hours. After that you have two months to complete your project.

NOTICE: If you extend over the two month time period for the beginners class, you will be responsible for STUDIO TIME and PROJECT STORAGE. See rates below.

Storage charges will automatically be billed to your credit card at the beginning of each month AFTER the allotted two month period. Your two months does not begin until you begin to cut out your pattern. You acknowledge and consent to this condition when you enroll in the class.

  • There is limited storage space for student projects and in the past we have had people abuse the privilege and extend their class for several months. This was not fair to other students who wanted to begin their class. If you make a reasonable effort there is NO reason why you cannot complete the project within the allotted time.

  • We run an open studio. After the first class you may come and work on your project when it suits your schedule. You may come as often as you like, all day everyday.

  • After completion of your first project, if you wish to continue working at the studio, studio time is charged at a rate of $2.50/hour. Again, if weeks pass with no activity, storage fees apply. If you are making a "reasonable effort" storage fees will not be applied.

  • Our hours are Mon~Sat, 10:00 am~10:00 pm. (Wishful thinking actually. If I'm lucky, I get everyone out of the studio by midnight.), Sunday hours are irregular. Sometimes we're open, sometimes not. Call first. We are also open most holidays with the exception of Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years days. For those who are 'early birds' (You know the type. That person you would do harm to in the morning because they are cheerful before you've even had your first cup of coffee.) you may come to the studio to work before the official opening time of 10:00 a.m. if you call the night before and let us know you want to come early. There is no charge for early access.

Fees are as follows:

Tuition:
Tool Rental:
Pattern Prep:
Material Draw:
$250.00
$75.00
$25.00*
$350.00

*Pattern Prep: Our regular pattern prep fee is $45.00/hr + cost of printing. For beginners, we offer a one time special. You may bring us a picture, photo or doodle, and we'll create a pattern for you including a color selection sheet and a graphics work sheet for $25.00. Believe me, it's a really good deal. We also ask that beginners keep their first project to under 10 sq.ft. ALSO, If you want your panel to fit in a window or existing space, bring us the exact measurements of the opening (with no allowances) and we will size your pattern to fit.

  • Total due upon transfer from 2nd list to first list: $700.00

  • Glass, foil, solder, chemicals and other misc items are drawn from the material draw as you require them.

INTENSIVE CLASSES
(Out of state visitors ONLY!)

Intensive classes on space available basis only.
Call or email for details and availability.

Intensive 4~7 day classes add $200.00 to tuition
Intensive 8~ + day classes same as regular classes
No intensive classes less than 4 "full" days

  • Students have the right to request an up to date accounting of monies spent and still on deposit at any time during the course if they wish.

  • For those students who wish to have their panels installed in doors or windows, we also provide an insulating service where we can either double or triple glaze your work into an insulated panel that meets building codes and is thermally efficient.

Restrictions on Beginners

1. First projects may not have beveled glass, jewels or glass globs.

2.
First projects must be original works. You give us the concept and we will develop the technical pattern.*

3.
First projects may not be three dimensional. (No tiffany lamps....2nd project O.K.)

4.
First projects must be of the Tiffany foil method.

5. First projects must have a minimum of 150 pieces. We recommend 150~500. (If desired, first projects may be as many as 700 pieces. Up to 500 pieces can be reasonably assumed to be finished within the two month period if the student makes a reasonable effort. First projects on average require 80-90 hours of work.

6. When finished, projects may not be taken home until we have one sunny day to photograph the panel for the webpage and photo album.

After completing your first project, if you wish to learn lead came or tiffany lamps, all other fees and conditions are the same.

Please ask if you wish additional information

*We do not teach pattern designing. We teach you how to render stained glass.
You are not required to be able to draw or represent a drawing for your pattern.
Merely supply us with a photograph showing a general idea of your desired concept
and we will do the work of creating the technical pattern for you to use.
